Heat from sewage flowing into treatment plants might provide the Milwaukee Metro Sewerage District with another step toward its goal of energy independence by 2035. Drawing heat off sewage, as Vancouver was the first to do in North America for its 2010 Winter Olympics, could help warm buildings at the Jones Island and South Shore Sewage treatment plants.

Dale Earnhardt Jr won the Daytona 500 Sunday night, in a race that was delayed six hours because of weather. He crossed the finish line about 11:30pm, giving him his first Dayton win since 2004. Earnhardt’s father was killed in a wreck on that same track in the 2001 race.

At today's "state of the city" speech, Mayor Tom Barrett will announce a plan to build a 50,000-foot industrial facility on the old A.O. Smith/Tower Automotive complex on the north side. Now that the site, known as Century City, has been cleared, the city hopes to start a business park and add some housing and other buildings on the vacant 107 acres.

The next phase of the Zoo Interchange Project began Sunday night with the closure of the southbound ramp to Highway 100 from I-94 East. It will remain closed until late 2014. For a list of detours, click here.
