Longtime community activists Mildred and Reuben Harpole have been selected to receive the 2013 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award. The award honors their work developing numerous institutions in Milwaukee's African-American community and various Milwaukee Arts boards.
The primary cause for hundreds of recent dolphin deaths along the East Coast is likely a virus and federal officials say there's no way to stop it from spreading right now. The virus is similar to measles in humans or canine distemper in dogs. There have been 488 dolphin strandings from New York to North Carolina, which is 300 more than the annual average.
Power outages struck several thousand We Energies customers yesterday, as high temperatures hovered in the 90's and heat indexes passed in 100. At one point, 3,300 customers were without power in Shorewood.
This weekend marks the second Highland Games of the season, celebrating Scottish culture. This festival, held at the Waukesha County Expo, is the only one in WI to feature Professional Heavy Athletes for hammer throw, stone put, sheaf toss and the traditional caber toss.
