The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts announced the theme for the 30th annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday on Jan. 19th. "Non-Violence: The Most Potent Weapon", which comes from a speech Dr. King delivered in 1961, will highlight works of art, speech and writing from Milwaukee's youth. Gov. Scott Walker called a special session Thursday to extend the deadline for moving 77,000 people off Medicaid until April, saying they need more time to sign up for private insurance through the problematic online federal health care exchange. Walker changed Medicaid eligibility in the sate budget, forcing 77,000 people off the state's BadgerCare plan and into the marketplace.
Google has replaced Apple as the most influential stock on the S&P 500 for 2013. Apple has held that spot at the top of the list for the last 4 years.
The Milwaukee County Zoo threw a special birthday party on Wednesday for B'alam and Zean, jaguar cubs born to mother Stella and their wild-born father Pat. Zookeepers provided the cubs with wrapped presents sprayed with special scent filled nesting material and a layered ice cake with frozen meat treats and food juices.
