Layton Boulevard West Neighbors and Impact Seven are among the groups sponsoring a Silver City business plan competition designed to bring new development and commerce into the south side area. The winner will receive a lease for a renovated 3,000 square foot storefront at 35th and National Ave, 3-5 months free rent and $5,000 from the Zilber Family Foundation to cover start-up costs. Finalists will be selected from the 26 entries on August 3rd to make a presentation and a winner will be chosen in September.
The food and beverage service aboard the Amtrak Hiawatha that runs between Milwaukee and Chicago will end on Friday. DOT spokeswoman Peg Schmitt said both WI and IL had subsidized the food-cart service at a cost estimated to be $233,000 a year. She also confirmed officials are in the early stages of considering adding Wi-Fi to the Hiawatha.
