As reported by the MBJ: Construction has begun on the long-awaited renovation of the Avalon Theatre in Bay View. Owner Lee Barczak says they hope to be done in May of 2014 to start showing movies this summer. The 84-year-old Avalon has been closed since 2000.        

Winter parking regulations for the city of Milwaukee took effect Sunday and continue through March 1st. Overnight parking is now prohibited on major arterial streets and bus routes. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for the "Snow Mobile-Winter Text Alert" which will inform subscribers when the city declares a snow emergency ,when the "4-inch rule" goes into effect.  The Marcus family and the Pfister Hotel won the first-ever "Heritage Award" from the Historic Hotels of America. The honor is awarded to a hotel for preserving it's community's unique cultural and heritage treasures. The Pfister was built in 1893 and bought by the Marcus family in 1962. 

A six-month-old pit bull that was buried under a pile of rubble for more than a week after a tornado tore through a central Illinois city has been found in the rubble. Dexter was seperated from his owner when their third floor apartment was destroyed by the tornado. Dexter was coaxed to freedom with hot dogs and reunited with his owner. Other than a few small cuts and scrapes, he is in good shape.
