What started as an first-time move to close almost two dozen diplomatic posts for a day has broadened to week-long closures. U.S. officials decided to close 19 embassies and consulates after intercepting a message among senior al Quaeda operatives with the thread of a possible attack.
The Department of Natural Resources wants anyone who spots a buck, doe and fawn before Sept. 20 to keep track of their observations on a tally sheet available on the agency's website. The effort is part of the DNR's annual Operation Deer Watch. The agency uses public observations to gain insight on the deer herd's reproduction.
Hundreds of people packed the Sikh Temple of WI in Oak Creek Sunday to remember the victims of the shooting there one year ago that took six lives. A picture wall inside the Temple honors the victims. Sikh community members have organized events throughout the day to honor lost loved ones, with a candlelight vigil tonight starting at 8pm, which is open to the public.
As reported by the Milwaukee Business Journal, Eight companies proposing a combined 355 affordable apartments in Milwaukee, including two projects for veterans, are vying for state tax credits reserved for development that would help connect workers with jobs. The WI Housing and Economic Development Authority each year awards tax credits to help finance affordable housing projects, but this year for the first time it's rewarding "high-impact" developments in areas with little affordable housing where new apartments will create or support job creation and area business.
