Circuit Court Judge William Brash III ordered Milwaukee County to temporarily outsource their inmate medical program to Florida firm, Armor Correctional Health Care. Armor will be paid $8.9 million for a one-year contract, providing four key administrators, as well as about 45 employees to fill vacancies. 85 nurses, psychiatrists, social workers and other will remain county employees, only replaced by Armor if vacancies occur.
Republicans on the Legislature's budget committee intend to approve a measure today that would bar utility ratepayers from having to bear any costs for the streetcar project in Milwaukee, shifting tens of millions of dollars of the cost from utilities to the city. It would still need the approval of the Assembly, Senate and Gov. Scott Walker to take effect.
The list of the 2013 winners of the 16th Annual Mayor's Design Awards were released this week. The 21 design winners came from 11 aldermanic districts in categories including "Design That Grabs You", "Go Green" and "Live Work Play". In music news, YouTube slapped David Bowie with an adult-only rating for his latest music video. Bowie's single "The Next Day" was temporarily pulled from YouTube because it featured him as a Christ-like figure surrounded by women in skimpy outfits and priests in a bar. It's has been returned to the website with a restriction for viewers 18 and above.
