Going to see Tchaikovsky’s classic ‘The Nutcracker” is a holiday tradition for many.  But on Dec. 7 at the Riverside Theater, you will get a chance to see the classic ballet in a whole new light.

Introducing The Hip Hop Nutcracker – a unique take on the classic ballet that features legendary hip-hop pioneer Kurtis Blow, and dozen all-star dancers, and an electric violinist. The performance is produced by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center with Executive Producer, Eva Price and co-commissioned by the United Palace of Cultural Arts.

Just like the classic Nutcracker story, in The Hip Hop Nutcracker Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of a colorful and contemporary New York City.

Tickets for The Hip Hop Nutcracker go on sale on Oct. 6 at noon.
