Next Friday, April 4th Turner Hall Ballroom will welcome St. Vincent back to Milwaukee for the first time since her 2012 tour with David Bryne. Her most recent, self-titled album arrived in late February to universal acclaim, many critics citing the further honing of St. Vincent's distinct aesthetic of guitar driven, introspective rock. Lines like “remember when we snorted a piece of the Berlin wall that you extorted?” are merely the tip of the witty intellect that infects every aspect of Annie Clark's sound. Having quietly risen to be one of music's most important critics of American culture, her commentaries amazingly pack insightful punches but never falter into paternalistic preachings. St. Vincent is all about conscious progress, both sonically and politically, but unlike many others she doesn't think it has to be a somber affair. Who said you can't dance while challenging the status quo?
