(MILWAUKEE, WI) Miltown Beat Down (MTBD), the Midwest’s premier music production battle, returns to Turner Hall Ballroom May 3rd for the final event of its eighth season. The night’s headliner, the legendary DJ Shadow, makes his Turner Hall debut at 2013’s championship battle along with Kid Cut Up, who returns to his hometown for a special performance at the event he helped establish. And, of course, the eight remaining producers will battle in a beat-by-beat showdown for the MTBD title and a loaded prize package.

DJ Shadow is widely credited as a key figure in developing the experimental instrumental hip-hop style associated with the London-based Mo' Wax label. Shadow has produced tracks for the debut album by U.N.K.L.E., a long-time Mo' Wax production team that gained superstar guests including Thom Yorke (of Radiohead), Richard Ashcroft (of the Verve), Mike D (of the Beastie Boys), and others. He will perform selections from his newest "All Basses Covered" DJ set-tour (the source of some controversy in Miami a few months back) during his MTBD set in Milwaukee.

For the past eight years the preliminary battles, which lead up to the finals, have been held at Jackalope Lounj in Milwaukee’s Third Ward. Again, the 2013 season’s eight prelim events take place at the Jack every Wednesday in March and April starting at 10 PM. This year’s 32 competitors represent genres ranging from electronic to hip-hop. Eight of them will emerge from the prelims and participate in the final battle at Turner Hall.

Since its inception in 2005, MTBD has grown into a venue-packing, regionally renowned event that provides producers an opportunity to showcase their music and network with like-minded industry professionals. New in 2013, MTBD partnered with DJ Bizzon of 91.7 WSME and DJ Chris V from React Presents. This partnership has taken the already-popular event to a new level – from higher quality production to wider-reaching promotion.
