In 2012, staff at Highland Community School had a peculiar idea for their elementary student talent show: hang gym parachutes from the gym ceiling, string up LED lights with a curtain, and of course allow the students to perform all kinds of original talents in wacky costumes. The result was the Highland Community Circus, a kid-run talent show that became one of the most talked-about school functions last fall. This year, the staff, students and parents of Highland Community School invite you to attend the 2nd Annual Highland Community Circus, which will occur Friday, November 8th at 6:30pm at Highland Community School.
The Highland Community Circus will feature the talents of over forty 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. Children participating in the circus will be performing a variety of acts, including hooping, juggling, batons, magic, gymnastics, tumbling, clowning, and even some animal tricks and death-defying stunts! The performers will also be backed up by a student-run stage crew that manages everything from the spotlights to playing real circus music. Students will also be ushering, selling tickets, and helping run a concession stand featuring popcorn and hot cider.
The Highland Community Circus promises to treat its audience to a school talent show unlike any school function they’ve ever seen. The show begins promptly at 6:30 on Friday, November 8th, with doors to the school auditorium opening at 6:00pm. Tickets are pay-what-you-can, with no one turned away for inability to pay. Highland Community School is an MPS Public Charter Montessori school located on 1706 W. Highland Avenue on Milwaukee’s west side. For more information, please call us at (414) 342-1412.
