Professor Jeanne Theoharis argues in her book, "The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks," that Parks’s iconization by a nation eager to place the civil rights movement firmly in the past has reduced her contributions to a single act on a bus, rather than a lifetime of political service. She will be presenting her book and hosting a discussion. Guest speaker Jeanne Theoharis is a professor of political science at Brooklyn College of CUNY and is the author or coauthor of numerous books and articles on the black freedom struggle and the contemporary politics of race in the United States.
