Figureheads: “Serving the next generation through music and mentorship.”

This nonprofit is pretty cool to say the least. It’s essentially a musical act that consists of Dave, Jeremy and Greg, and they use original positive hip-hop music to engage with youth and educators. They challenge the youth to think critically and develop collaborative skills that will help them in their future.

So how do these guys go about teaching the youth a different style of hip-hop? They write high-quality positive hip-hop music that relates to pre-k, elementary, middle, and high school audiences. Neat, right? Then they perform! They give high-energy and inspirational concerts for youth and their families throughout the community. This could be anywhere from schools, community centers, public parks, or wherever else they’re invited.

In addition to working with the youth, Dave, Jeremy and Greg like to encourage other educators and youth workers with their music and experience. I had the opportunity to meet both Dave Olson and Jeremy Bryan, along with six kids they were working with. To learn more about these musicians, educators and mentors, click the podcast below.
