Listen: In a time of belt-tightening and shrinking budgets, Reagan High School's indomitable D.I.Y. ethos is making things happen. Each piece this week has been a testament to that idea, and none stronger than the story of their lean and mean broadcasting outfit -- Radio Reagan.
They wanted to do radio, so they figured out a way to do it. After they bootstrapped together some equipment and software, they found a big PA speaker and set it up in the hallway (see below). As I sit at my desk here in the 88Nine studios, it makes me feel pretty spoiled.
Jeremy and Barbara, two of Radio Reagan's leaders, bring us inside their upstart radio station -- Jeremy even does a simulated 88Nine break:
"Radio Reagan. It's cool." I love that -- maybe I'll borrow it for our imagining here at 88Nine... Also, it's great to hear there are young people interested in doing radio. Maybe someday, they'll let me sit in for a broadcast (if my non-compete clause allows me)!
