Bored for the holidays? 9 things to do (with family or solo!) in MKE this Christmas weekend.

  1. Serve Christmas dinner to the community.

For the past 27 years the Salvation Army serves up a free ham and turkey dinner to thousands on Christmas Day. Feeling charitable but don’t have extra cash? Sign up to volunteer serving, they’re always looking for hands!

2. Have your annual viewing of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the Avalon Theater.

To top off their mini-Christmas-movie-marathon, the Avalon is screening the 1946 Christmas classic on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day… every time a bell rings, and angel gets his wings!

3. Burn off some Christmas calories (and stay warm) ice skating indoors.

Looking to work off a few of those Christmas cookies? The Petit National Ice Center has public ice skating both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day… perfect for families!

4. Celebrate with some Kung-Fu and Chinese food.

Need to get away from the family for a bit? Nomad on Brady is serving up free Chinese food and playing Kung-Fu flicks both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

5. Top your Christmas pancakes with some… custard?

Pancake breakfast: pretty normal. Pancakes topped with custard and candy? Now we’re talking. Spoil your Christmas dinner the right way and head over at Oak Creek’s Georgie Porgies for their annual Pancake and Custard Breakfast.

6. Check out the impressive lights of Candy Cane Lane.

The Milwaukee classic ‘Candy Cane Lane’ is back and better than ever. Head over to West Allis and walk (or drive) past over 300 houses all lit to raise money for the MACC Fund.

7. Catch ’em all at Game Universe in Franklin.

Spend your Christmas Eve with Pikachu, Squirtle and… well, those are all of the Pokemon I know… But Game Universe in Franklin has their Casual Pokemon Saturdays going on from 12-3 pm for those that are looking to get away from the holiday’s for a bit.

  • Game Universe, 6550 S Lovers Lane, Franklin, Saturday 12 – 3 PM.

8. Celebrate with a Traditional Polish Meatless dinner

In Poland, Christmas is celebrated with a twelve-dish meatless supper…. and Milwaukee’s got a pretty Polish history, so why not save the cooking this year and celebrate with a traditional dinner? Polonez Restaurant in St. Francis has the homemade feasts for you ready to take home, just shoot them a call ahead of time.

TurduckenRolls

9. No family in town? Eat Turducken (that turkey/duck/chicken thing) with other “Christmas Orphans.”

Alone for Christmas? D14 is hosting a “Bay View Christmas Orphans Party” for those that couldn’t make it home for the holidays– complete with two Turduckens, the Packers and, of course, good beer.
