Today’s 5 O’Clock Shadow features 60s surf rockers the Hondells and indie rock heroes Yo La Tengo playing a little tune called “Little Honda.”
Originally recorded in 1964 by the Hondells, “Little Honda” quickly rose to the top of the charts, eventually peaking at number 9. The song was actually written for the band by Brian Wilson and Mike Love of the Beach Boys (who would later release their own version). 30 years later, Yo La Tengo recorded a cover using their signature distortion and Ira Caplan’s dreamy vocals for their 1997 album I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One.
Listen to the two below and give us your thoughts!
