Lily's Got Soul

This week we are exploring the music of Lily Allen's debut album Alright, Still.

Released in 2006, this project catapulted Allen's career.   The break out hit for this project was the single "Smile"

 

 

This track was a big hit for the project. It was her very first single in her home country's main charts, following a top forty entry with the limited release of "LDN" the same year.

Like "LDN", this song was produced by UK electro duo Future Cut.  They again went to the Reggae section of their favorite diggin' spot to pull out a rocksteady classic.

Jackie Mitoo is known as the keyboard king of ska and rocksteady.  In the late 1960s, he was recording with a group called the Soul Brothers.  They had some super tough rude boy jams, including this one...
