The Milwaukee Labor Press newspaper has printed its final edition after serving the city for 73 years as the "voice of labor". The paper sites rising costs, a reduction in advertizing and a drop in union membership as reasons for stopping the print form. Once a weekly publication delivered to 150,000 homes, the paper carried union news, but also a variety of features such as recipes, bowling scores and news of social gatherings.
Polls will open at 7 a.m. today for Wisconsin's spring election. The ballot consists of mostly local races like judges, school board seats and aldermanic contests. Voting locations found here.
The East Side Library site at North and Farwell is moving to a temporary location at 2430 N Murray Ave this summer. The existing library will be demolished and replaced with a mixed-use development that includes 99 apartments and 16,000 square feet of space for a new library and retail space.
In Music news, Lollapalooza released their official 2013 line-up for Grant Park in August. The Cure, Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, Nine Inch Nails and The Postal Service are all headlining. Other highlights include The National, New Order, Tegan and Sarah, Alt-J, Major Lazer and Hot Chip. .Three day passes are sold out, and single day tickets go on sale tomorrow.
