Gov. Scott Walker is hoping a trade mission he will lead to China in April will expand the state's thriving relationship with the world's second-largest economy. WI exported nearly $1.5 billion in exports to China in 2012 in the form of dairy products, ginseng and processed foods. Walker will also be looking for Chinese companies interested in investing in Wisconsin companies.
As reported by the PNC Financial Services, the 18th largest bank in the U.S. is closing about 200 branches this year in a $700 million cost-cutting move. The move is tied to balancing the banking services handled at branches, which are more expensive, with the lower-cost of online and ATM banking. PNC has 30 branches in the seven-county Milwaukee area. No details about where the branch closings will take place.
In commemoration of Leonard Cohen's first Milwaukee performance in 38 years, Mayor Tom Barrett has proclaimed Friday, March 15th to be "Leonard Cohen Day" in Milwaukee. Leonard Cohen's prolific career, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award contribute to this acknowledgement of Cohen's accomplishments.
As reported by the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the Marquette College of Nursing plan to open a clinic this summer on Milwaukee's north side to give impoverished families access to much-needed medical care. The clinic will be housed in COA Goldin Center on 23rd and Burleigh and is much easier to access for the residents, who currently travel 30 blocks to the emergency rooms at St Joseph Hospital. The clinic is expected to open in July.
