Don't Sleep On: Nneka!

It takes a lot and a  special artist to get me really excited. I mean a real special artist and that does not happen often. You have a better chance to win the lottery than tell me about artist that can get me excited.  Well, go claim your lottery winnings. The lovely and talented ladies at the blog Wrong Lips have just done that.  They have got me excited about this artist by the name of Nneka. Nneka was born in Warri, Nigeria in 1981 and later relocated to Germany.

Her influences reflect her younger days in Nigeria as well as her time in the western world as she names famous compatriot Fela Kuti and legend Bob Marley as well as contemporary rappers Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Mobb Deep and Lauryn Hill. After gaining experiences good and bad with several producers and artists, she finally met DJ and Hip Hop Beatmaker, DJ Farhot (Hit Spot Productions) and they are working together for 2 years now.

She embodies everything I like in music.  Blending genres without any effort.  Hip hop, soul, reggae, electronic, african, and even rock all come natural to her.  She has a new album called No Longer At Ease which is simply beautiful and has slipped into my top records of the year.  Check out the song "Heartbeat" and you will see why.
