Whatever you may think of Detroit, you can't deny its musical legacy. From the Motown sound to the birth of punk to hip hop beats of J Dilla to the birthplace of Techno, Detroit's diverse sound has spread it's influence all over the world. The legendary guitarist Dennis Coffey is one of those Detroit legends that put a stamp on soul and funk music. Coffey just released his amazing self-titled album, which features a who's who' of modern soul and funk including Mayer Hawthorne and Milwaukee's own Kings Go Forth. I was lucky enough to catch this icon perform at this year's Bonnaroo.
Now Mr. Coffey is tapping the Detroit electronic scene to remix songs from his latest release. Coffey's label Strut Records is partnering up with Fat Beats to release a collection of remixes of songs from Coffey's latest album for free. Producers from Dabyre, Recloose, Stigeto and other will put there take on those amazing modern soul and funk classics. You can download the first of these remixes. Producer Stigeto takes on the song "All Your Goodies Are Gone" featuring Mayer Hawthorne. Listen and download below.
