#5   DJ Mujava "Township Funk" ... My top dance/world music cut, it's from South Africa and DJ Mujava serves it up proper-- equal doses of house and kwaito sets this apart from the others...

#4   Eugene "Calm, Cool & Collected"... Propers go to Scott "Dirty Soul" Millins for turning me on to this cut from a cat who is a relative unknown. I could have easily gone with the equally inspired and unknown artist Valentina, but this one gets the nod because it's so new and still fresh and warm in my iPod. You can hear it here, on 88Nine's current rotation.

jorob#3   John Robinson "There She Goes feat. Jah Orah"... It took a half a decade to come out, but this long awaited collab between Lil' Sci of Scienz of Life and MF Doom is out now. And how; it's a semi-conceptual album in the MF Doom/Kool Keith tradition that features Lil' Sci at his lyrical finest, spittin' gifted rhymes over MF Doom's Special Herbs series of instrumentals, solid through and through... and the song I chose to present from the album Who Is John Robinson? even references The La's 1991 classic-- now this is hip hop.

#2   Matty G "Nuff A Diss feat. Fyah Luvah"... Talk about solid albums, well Santa Cruzieran Matty G has got the sleeper of the year here with his new joint. If you caught my last post, you know, for those that don't, please check it out. Cat is 83269951blazing trails, bringing hip hop and reggae with the help of his Roland 808 and a dubstep sensibility he brings fire on fourteen crucial cuts (yep, the whole damn album). The one presented today got play because it has got a nice roots-ey feel with Fyah Lovah toasting singjay-style much like Midnite's Vaughn Benjamin, crucial-- West coast, 'nuff respect!

#1    Kings Go Forth "One Day"... While it would be easy to put something else here at my top spot, I think this cut by Milwaukee's own Kings Go Forth is worthy. A dancefloor burner from some cats for whom the soul is older than the idea of retro. This is their first cut, radio ready from word go, there are few bands in town as ready to blow up as them. As usual, you can hear it exclusively on 88Nine RadioMilwaukee-- Milwaukee's choicest.

HERE is the link to the iMix of my list (note: the Eugene cut is not out yet so I could not post it for you all, sorry)

Others that could have easily been in this list... Fleet Foxes, Santogold, MIA, Midnite, Tes La Rok, Lexie Lee, Flying Lotus, TV On The Radio, Chancha Via Circuito, DJ/Rupture, Leila, Raashan Ahmad, Madlib, Andy Votel Pres. Brazilika, Pinch as well as The Revelations
