I haven't done a Site of Day in a while. As some of you know, the popular Muxtape site has been 'temporarily' shut down to issues it has with your friendly kid and single mom suing RIAA. So where can we make a mix and share with the world now. The answer is the site 8Tracks.  It works just like Muxtape plus it has some cool features that Muxtape didn't have. But wait, won't  it get shut down by the RIAA just like Muxtape.  Actually it shouldn't becuase it pays small webcaster royalties to SoundExchange. It works very similar to Muxtape. You can upload up to 8 songs for mix, or you can search for songs on its network for your mix.  Not only you can send a link to your mix to your friends, but you can embed it on your blog or website (see my example mix below).

I really dig this better than Muxtape.

From 8Tracks website:

Product

On 8tracks, people can do two things: listen to a mix, or create a mix. Listeners can search for a mix by artist or genre, stream it in a legal, radio-style manner, and follow others who make compelling mixes. DJs upload MP3s or select tracks from the 8tracks library to craft a playlist, add context with description and art, and publish their mix on 8tracks.com and a personal webpage.

Vision

8tracks believes handcrafted music programming trumps algorithms. Think radio in the 1970s, mixtapes in the 1980s, and DJ culture of the 1990s through today. DJs share their talent in taste making, providing exposure for artists. Listeners get a unique blend of word-of-mouth sharing and radio programming — long the trusted means for music discovery — on a global scale.

The site was found by David Porter an ex General Manager of Live365. There is also an interview with the founder over at Wired.com

UPDATE: Since the shut down of Muxtape, a new open source version of Muxtape is available called Opentape. Check this review of Opentape here.  With this you can host your own Muxtape on your site. I will write more on this in a later post.

Here is my example mix created with 8Tracks.
