  • The modern "living room" welcomes you with lots of seating and attractive lighting.
  • Long laptop bars allow for many people to use their own devices, using the free high speed wifi internet.
  • Sit by a three-sided glass fireplace and enjoy a book or get work done on your tablet.
  • Original glass artwork on display from the previous building.
  • Look up and see more reclaimed material -- old deckboard turned into a decorative ceiling.
  • Self-checkout kiosks use modern RFID technology.
  • Laptops available for short-term checkout.
  • At the center is the "community room." It features huge soundproof doors and is available to the public for rental.

Have you been to the new library on the East Side of Milwaukee?

It is so cool.

After three years of planning and constuction, the newest branch is finally open for patrons to enjoy.  The design is modern and inviting, totally replacing the aging structure that occupied the corner of Cramer St. and North Ave. since the late 1960s.

Feature length film to shoot in Milwaukee next year

It's not too often a feature length film -- actually shot on film -- is made in Milwauke.  But two local writer-producers are working now to make it happen, scouting locations and raising money in hopes they'll be able to begin shooting in February 2015.

The dark comedy film, Give Me Liberty, follows a 19-year-old Russian immigrant who works as a medical transport driver.  His grandfather’s health is failing, and he is trying to raise enough money to keep him out of a nursing home.
