Big Talk from Red Baraat

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to debut new music from Brooklyn's finest (and only that I know) bhangra brass band Red Baraat; as well as introduce them personally on stage at Milwaukee's biggest world music festival, Alverno's Global Union, but today's cut I played around noon continued this unexpected tradition.

It took me a minute to warm to Red Baraat; they're sound has all the ingredients I like but the proportions take a bit of getting used to when the the sound is heard in its whole. A band that is in measures part bhangra, part brass band and part go-go when they're not just straight funkin.'

Conceived by Sunny Jain, the group has drawn worldwide praise for its singular sound and follow their Billboard World Music chart-topping release Shruggy Ji, with Big Talk. The record features new tracks and remixes by Chico Mann, Dave Sharma, and more, showcasing Red Baraat's one of a kind Brooklyn Bhangra sound.
