Earlier today I played some highly anticipated new material from Gogol Bordello, and right after today's New Music Wednesday, I gotcha with another; the latest from Nigerian Femi Kuti. Son of the late great Fela Kuti, Femi has long toiled in that long shadow, emerging time and again with material that shines in the great legacy left by his famous father.
That's evident yet again on the new album No Place For My Dream, Femi finds a voice that is at once even more stridently political yet balanced with an overriding sense of compassion for the poor and underrepresented. Throughout however, he remains on solid footing, never condescending or cheeky in his evaluations or sympathies.

Really though, if you want to have a great time and see him play live, you'll be with me when Femi comes to Summerfest on Friday, June 28th at the Johnson-Controls World Stage...
