City of Milwaukee to give free water filters to combat lead pipes

In order to combat lead piping in old houses, the City of Milwaukee will provide residents with water filters this month, according to the Milwaukee Health Department. The devices will be available for anyone living in houses that qualify for the free filter program. Clickor call 414-286-2830 to learn if you are eligible for the program. Some houses might not qualify for the program, but residents of these houses can click here to purchase highly-discounted devices until the end of the year.

Lead in drinking water can pose several health risks if consumed. These risks are heightened by old houses and their lead piping. The photo above illustrates how the piping connected to houses has potential to be a lead-based.  In order to combat this, the City is providing free water filter systems to homes that qualify. As part of the program, the City will be providing a countertop unit and a filter-pitcher. The City of Milwaukee has complied a list of houses how are at risk for lead exposure. To see if your home qualifies, click here.
