Then part two, we head to Bay View to visit 1840 Brewing Co., an “urban farmhouse” brewery making most of its beer in oak barrels.

The owners of The Diplomat restaurant on Brady, Dane and Anna Baldwin, are the latest in a century-long string of Milwaukee family business owners to occupy the building.

For years it housed pizza joints and nightclubs and each owner had their own unique story.

Similarly, 1840 Brewing Co. in Bay View is set up in a building with a lot of history and former tenants.

Now, it’s a craft brewery giving a daily nod to the past—almost every one of its beers in aged in oak barrels instead of massive steel brew kettles.
