Growing Power’s Urban and Small Farms Conference 2016
From Nov. 18 to Nov 20, Growing Power’s will hold its annual Urban and Small Farms Conference. This year, there will be an event called Three Perspectives on Food: A Conversation with Will Allen, Ron Finley and Alice Waters. These three leaders will share their views on how farming, social justice and the culinary arts can be powerful tools for equity locally, nationally and internationally. Alice Waters is known as the founder of the farm to table movement. Ron Finley is known for bringing urban farming to South Central Los Angeles and was featured in the documentary, “Can You Dig This?” Check out his inspiring TED Talk below. Hotel Madrid in Walker’s Point
Hotel Madrid is the newest venture from the folks over at Movida. Hotel Madrid consists of several components:
Bodegón, meaning home cooking restaurant, is a fine dining experience that focuses on the rustic cuisine of Spain. Bodegón specialties include Suckling Pig, Veal Chops, and Squid Ink Risotto.
Hotel Madrid features two suites available for overnight or extended stays. Each room boasts a floor-to-ceiling cream city brick and industrial design.
La Cava (Spanish for cave) is a wine cellar located deep within the caves of Hotel Madrid. Constructed of cream city brick in the early 1900’s, a small section of these underground Milwaukee tunnels rests beneath Hotel Madrid and today houses one of the most select wine collections in the city.
The Bar program at Vermutería 600 is inspired by an original Bates Cocktail Index from 1934, that was given to Beverage Director Daniel Beres as a gift. In this index are classic cocktails that were not just common in speakeasies across America during prohibition, but cocktails you would find Ernest Hemingway and his guests imbibing while staying at the famous Hotel Florida of Madrid in the 1930’s. Vermutería 600 focuses on seasonal interpretations of these cocktails, and offers an array of house specialties, in-house made vermouth and sangría on tap.
The Ruby Tap’s Thanksgiving Tasting
The Ruby Tap will host a Thanksgiving Tasting event on Nov 20 from 3pm – 5pm. They bring in a variety of Thanksgiving foods and pair them with 15 different wines. Space is limited and tickets are $30/person and include wine tasting and food.

Eleven25 at Pabst new food court
Eleven25 is a new off-campus, student apartment complex located in the former Pabst Brewing Company bottling house. In addition to the apartments, there is a food court featuring local establishments like Meat on The Streat (Filipino cuisine), Gouda Girls, Huan Xi, Upper Crust Pizza and more.
