"Neighborhood Project": Week Three, The School Sisters of Silver City

Listen: In conversations around Silver City, I've noticed a clear consensus -- the neighborhood would look totally different without the School Sisters of St. Francis. Occupying an entire block, the SSSF not only have a massive physical presence in the area, but also serve their neighborhood with amazing devotion. They are true to their Franciscan mission. Also, as it turns out, they are really cool ladies. The School Sisters of Saint Francis: This story easily could have been much different -- the School Sisters could have taken the path of least resistance and upheld the status quo. Opening themselves to the secular community around them, in all truth, was probably a difficult transition. However, in my short conversation with them, I could tell they would never want it any other way. If you get a chance, check out their premises. They have a beautiful garden and chapel that will knock your socks off. Also, they run a pancake breakfast, ice cream socials, and other delicious events. Plus, if you get to know them a little better, you'll always have an open invitation (they invited me back sometime for lunch!). Produced by: Adam Carr and Sam Van Hallgren
