"Meet The Need": Day 5 | Fessahaye Mebrahtu, The Pan-African Community Assocation

Listen: On day 5 of 50, we hear from the Pan-African Community Association. While we think of ourselves as a city of diverse cultures, most folks in Milwaukee probably don't think of our city as a remarkably international place in terms of recent immigrants. And outside of our growing Hmong population, we probably read about displaced people more than we connect them to our own community. In these pieces Fessahaye Mebrahtu, executive director of the Pan-African Community Association, tells us about Milwaukee's African community and the challenges immigrants and refuges face in our community:

-Fessahaye explains how PACA evolved from a group designed to be a support group and how it evolved to provide essential services to immigrants and refuges: -The role PACA plays in the lives of immigrants coming to Milwaukee: -A picture of the African refuge and immigrant population in Milwaukee, you may not be familiar with: -A fascinating bit on the path of a refuge from their homeland to Milwaukee: -The story of a single mother from the Democratic Republic of Congo who had trouble adjusting to life in Milwaukee: For more information on The Pan-African Community Association visit their website , and if you'd like to help PACA meet their needs this holiday season, learn how you can help here .
