"Meet The Need": Day 7 | Donna Gazzana, The Open Door Cafe

Listen: For Meet The Need Day 7 of 50, our first Sunday, we hear from a downtown Milwaukee mainstay -- The Open Door Cafe. The largest of The Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist's outreach ministries, The Open Door Cafe is a meal program that extends beyond simply providing food to those in need. In addition to services like paying for transportation to medical appointments and providing month-long sanitation kits, The Open Door Cafe offers their guests a hand up. Donna Gazzana, Director of Outreach Ministries at The Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist, shares how the work done at The Open Door Cafe starts with their guests and reverberates in the larger community:

-The Open Door Cafe, providing hot meals six days a week, pulling together the downtown business community: -A description of how the cafe actually serves as many as 250 people a day and 57,000 meals a year: -How the cafe evolved from one hungry man to the Baloney Brigade to its present day form: -It might surprise you, but the cafe is entirely volunteer run, including many former Open Door Cafe guests: -How a man down on his luck used The Open Door Cafe to get back on his feet: For more information on The Open Door Cafe visit their website , and if you'd like to help The Open Door Cafe meet their needs this holiday season, learn how you can help here .
