"Meet The Need": Day 12 | Julie Bock, The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center

Listen: For Day 12 of 50 in Meet The Need, we take a look at The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. How does this organization's work fit into the basic needs picture? To begin the answer, we can take the range of social services they provide their clients, from counseling to medical resources. But as we look a little deeper into their work, we find support groups, civil rights advocacy, educational opportunities and as their name would suggest, a focus on community. The importance of a strong community, especially for a group that often faces discrimination, cannot be underestimated when we consider how an individual functions in the world at large. In these pieces Director of Programs Julie Bock gives us a picture of the LGBT community in Milwaukee, and the important work done at the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center. -Julie explains why there needs to be a community center specific to LGBT issues, and what they do: -A clear picture of the LGBT community in Milwaukee: -The story of a young woman coming to Project Q and the progress she made with the help of the LGBT Community Center: For more information on The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center visit their website , and if you'd like to help them meet their needs this holiday season, learn how you can help here .
