"The Neighborhood Project": Martin Drive | Eat Cake!

Listen: Over the course of the next seven weeks, we hope to introduce you to some of those "is that really going on in my city?" places and people. Personally, while I won't be stretching the truth, I'll be actively hunting for the barely believable in our own backyard. Eat Cake! is not a bad place to start.

Recently, the decorative cake world has received a shot of national attention through the Food Network's Ace of Cake series, but there's a cake shop in Milwaukee that's equally if not more impressive. Eat Cake ! on 43rd and Vliet decorates and sculpts cakes that could rival anything anybody's doing anywhere. Debbie Pagel, owner of Eat Cake!, introduces what they do: And really, hearing about these cakes can't match how amazing they are in person. They have a few photo albums of cakes they've done in the past on display that are worth the trip.

Amongst other things, Debbie loves the challenge of making cakes that look like other forms of food. In this piece, Debbie recounts her most memorable cake, a Chicago hot dog and fries for a birthday party: Interested in Eat Cake! Check them out. Interested in Martin Drive? You can learn more about them at their neighborhood website , and of course, you can always go and check it out for yourself .
