"The Neighborhood Project": Martin Drive | A Beautiful Pocket Garden

Listen: In my last post, I presented a community garden that came from a lot of hands and minds from around the Martin Drive community. It occupies a previously open space and is becoming a staple of the neighborhood. However, gardens come to be for an array of reasons -- in this case, an inauspicious piece of land scrunched between an apartment building and parking lot became a haven for the building's residents.

I just happened to be walking by, when we caught the right person to tell us all about the garden. Dan Sylvester, resident of one of those beautiful apartment buildings on Martin Drive, tells us how a drainage ditch overrun by bamboo became a sanctuary for him and his neighbors (Correction: in the piece, I misstate Dan's name as Ed -- sorry Fred!): Dan also gave me his reason for living in Martin Drive for the past 20-some years:

Interested in Martin Drive? You can learn more about them on their Facebook neighborhood profile , and of course, you can always go and check it out for yourself !
