"The Neighborhood Project": Walker's Point | Jennifer's Walking Tour of her Neighborhood

Listen: In our first conversation on the phone, I barraged Jennifer Espenscheid with questions about Walker's Point: "What's your favorite business?" "Who's your favorite character?" "What's it like to raise a family in the neighborhood?" and so on. All the while, there were little voices in the background -- daughters being daughters. We chatted for a little while and she eventually suggested, "Why don't you come to the neighborhood and take a walk with us and I'll show you the answers to your questions?" The exact right answer.

Jennifer's place and one of the nicest apartments I've ever seen

I met Jennifer in her beautiful apartment on the soon-to-be-improved 2nd Street. We had tea while I poked around, admiring how sweat equity and creativity can transform one of those iconic Walker's Point spaces into a home. And after she got the girls ready, we hit the street.

In the first part of Jennifer's walking tour, we leave the building and begin to walk down 2nd Street, getting into some of the perks of living so close to the Alan Bradley clock and what it's like to raise a family in the neighborhood:

A little bit of foreshadowing at the endthere! And you don't even need to wait -- keep scrolling down.

In the second part, Jennifer admires a graffiti mural, reveals the headquarters of all those guys with the popsicle trucks, introduces some of the bars and restaurants on 2nd Street, and ruminates on what the neighborhood's all about:

All that in just a couple of blocks! Jennifer assured me there were dozens more equally interesting routes, and I believe her.

Veda shows off her room!
