Sample Villany

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning here on 88NINE, we explore the world of sampling. Regardless of genre, era, or style, if the song uses a sample; we break the track down and connect the musical dots.

This week on 7 o'Clock Sample, we are diggin' in the crates with Madlib.  In 2004 Madlib teamed up with Hip Hop's super villain MF DOOM to create the rap super group MADVILLIAN.

This collaboration has grown a strong and steady underground following.  MF DOOM and Madlib are two of Hip Hop's most underestimated players.  The fact that they created a project together is in itself amazing.  There has been rumor floating around the web, that these two will team up again for a 2nd installment.

The MADVILLANY album featured an impressive 22 great songs, including this one..

This track was sampled from a somewhat lost Stevie Wonder album. EIVETS REDNOW. ( Stevie Wonder spelled backwards ) The album was released almost in secret, because of Motown establishing Wonder as a soul-pop shouter, the label agreed to release the album with Wonder's name backwards. This would be copied by other musicians over the years. Wonder only plays harmonica, drums, and clavinet on this album and doesn't sing on any of the tracks.

Check out this great track...
