"Meet The Need": Day 44 of 50 | Notre Dame Middle School

Listen: On Day 44 of 50 in Meet The Need (we're getting so close to the end!), we spend the day with Notre Dame Middle School! A private, all girls school on the Walker's Point neighborhood serving a primarily latino population, Notre Dame focuses on preparing students for college preparatory high schools and providing continued support into college.

Jenna Kashou, Director of Development at Notre Dame, brings us inside their work:

-Sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, they take a holistic approach to education, from their after school program stretching all the way through when the girls are entering the world of college:

-The Latino female population in the United States, and specifically in Milwaukee, face some major challenges when you look at some of the numbers:

-While Jenna works in development at Notre Dame, she's made it a priority to get to know their students better. And what better time to chat with the girls than lunch?

-Jenna shares the story of a young woman who came to Milwaukee and Notre Dame not knowing any English -- an uphill climb just to get to square one:

-There are plenty of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer at Notre Dame in the classroom, as well as being a one-on-one mentor:

(For anybody keeping track, I accidentally tagged these tracks at the beginning with the wrong day -- I say "Day 43" not "Day 44." My bad!)

This year, we ask you to adopt one or two organizations that connect with you. Want to get involved with Notre Dame? Donate, volunteer, or check out their work yourself. And you can start with their website.
