There has been a lot of talk recently about how classical music is struggling in the country. However, there have been some classical musicians willing to break the mold and be innovative to attract a younger audience. One of my favorites is Miguel Atwood Fergueson, who have performed with artist such as Bilal, Aloe Blacc, and Flying Lotus.
There is another classical music "group" is breaking the mold. Their name is The Portland Cello Project. They have played with such groups and bands as The Decemberists, The Dandy Warhols, Bright Eyes and Thao Nguyen from Thao and The Get Down Stay Down. They also released a record on the label Kill Rock Stars, same label as Thao.
Below is a video of them performing a cover of Kanye West's "All Of The Lights." It is quite epic and moving. Is this collaboration and working with new artists the future of classical music?
For your reference here is Kanye's original featuring Rhianna.
