This week, we are headed down south, WAY down south, to Brazil for our Sample Travels segment.
I wanted to look at the sounds of Brazil on the show this week. So I found no better place to start than with N.A.S.A. N.A.S.A. stands for North America/South America and, in addition to DJ's Squeaky Clean and Zegon, the album includes approximately three dozen other artists from both coasts of the U.S. and abroad. It's a true journey of sound.
This album featured many of my favorite rappers and DJs, and this song is one of my favorites. Here is "HIP HOP" featuring Fatlip and KRS-One.
What a funky tune! Not only was this song produced in Brazil, but it's sample was too.
In 1971 Tony Tornado released his self titled debut on Odeon Records in Rio De Janeiro. Tony has worked in entertainment his whole life. In 1970 he adopted the name with which he was known Tony Tornado ", influenced by James Brown , Tony was one of the artists who introduced soul music and funk music in Brazil.
