Tour of Washington Park/Neighborhood Project Week 6

Built in 1891, Washington Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the famous landscape architect who also designed Milwaukee's Lake Park and Central Park in New York. Another interesting note, Washington Park was once the home to the Milwaukee County Zoo. Now, the park holds concerts at the music bandshell, tennis courts, pools, a branch of the Urban Ecology Center, farmer's markets, gardens, ponds, and the list goes on.

This urban park is a large, bustling area centered in the heart of the Washington Park Neighborhood. It's bordered by Martin Drive, Uptown, Sherman Park and Metcalfe Park, Walnut Hill, and the Washington Heights Neighborhoods. Sherman Boulevard and Lisbon Avenue actually run through the park. Community members devote their energy to revitalize their favorite park in the city. Its diversity, charm and active environment leave a lasting impression on all those who visit.
