GE Healthcare is something we hear quite often, but here in Milwaukee, GE employees take part in one of the largest, single-day GE volunteering events in the world. Over 2,500 GE employee and retiree volunteers come together by helping 15 Milwaukee Public Schools and five Waukesha Public Schools get ready for the upcoming school year. Community Service Day requires GE volunteers to dedicate more than 10,000 hours by helping painting, cleaning, organizing, and working on the school's landscape. This year, it's GE's 17th Annual Community Service Day. Volunteering is a main factor of GE's culture and this day was created to give Milwaukee-area GE employees a chance to help out local schools and become more involved in community service.
Within the past 17 years, GE employees gave thousands of hours of volunteer service to schools in Milwaukee, and have painted over 350 murals for multiple elementary, middle and high schools in Southeastern Wisconsin. At this year's Community Service Day, more than 400 classrooms were cleaned, painted, and organized, more than 40 murals were painted, and more than 10 computer rooms were updated and built.
