I reconnected with photographer John Ruebartsch at my "office" (Alterra on Humboldt) last summer right after moving back to Milwaukee from Santa Fe,NM. I recognized him from the arts scene, and we have maintained a connection through the importance of arts, education, and volunteerism. John is a reknowned photographer, whose work has been published in book form, and can be seen in various exhibits. He ALSO happens to have time to work closely with the immigrant refugee population in Milwaukee, and has a particular interest, it appears, in the Somali-Bantu population here.
He currently volunteers his time tutoring youth and adults in English language skills at the International Learning Center.Through this partnership, he has connected with a particular young Somali film-maker, and is attempting to make this young man's films known to the public.
I give John two BIG thumbs up.
