Habitat for Humanity and MIAD have partnered up via Green Studio, a course taught by instructors Eric Vogel and Nichole Jeffries. Seniors enrolled in this course have the opportunity to design, create, and build green, sustainable, affordable housing for Habitat for Humanity. The program takes them outside the confines of the classroom and provides students real-world, client-based curricula opportunities.
I visited the classroom, eavesdropped, and spoke with students (I teach at MIAD as well), and later I met with with Eric and Niki to talk about the idea for the course, the importance of engaging students in hands-on, real-life experience, and the future of affordable, green housing right here in Milwaukee.
