This week, we are looking for some cool yule holiday cover songs. There is no shortage of remakes and alternative versions of x-mas tracks, but this week, I'm digging for those super cool holiday covers.
In 1971, John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band cut a holiday record that remains on many holiday playlists today. HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER) was recorded, and while it was a protest song about the Vietnam War, it has become a Christmas standard. It's on several Christmas albums, and was voted the ninth favorite Christmas song in a poll by music channel VH1.
I found many versions of this song, but I really loved John Holt's version on the Trojan Records Christmas box set.
