This week on the 2 o'clock Break we are looking at my favorite samples from one of my favorite Hip Hop groups, A Tribe Called Quest.
Q-Tip, Phife Dawg and DJ/producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad, created some of the most iconic Hip Hop of the 1990s. Their albums are still celebrated among many rap music enthusiasts as the best of the era.
In 1990, their debut album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm was full of classic drum breaks and soul samples. They also used a number of "not-so" usual sample sources.
Lou Reed's 1972 classic TRANSFORMER was sampled by Tribe for the track "Can I Kick It." Here is Lou's track "Walk On The Wild Side"
