What Makes Milwaukee: Art Grants/Make Milwaukee 2012 Week 8

What Makes Milwaukee? Grants for artists of color courtesy of the Joyce Foundation, located in Chicago. The Joyce Foundation provides grants to artists of color throughout the Great Lakes region, specifically to those artists residing in Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul AND Milwaukee. Past recipients have been artist Theaster Gates who worked with the Milwaukee Art Museum and Kohler Arts Center, as well as other local Milwaukee artists.

I spoke by phone with Angelique Power, Joyce Foundation's Director of Culture,  about the importance of the arts, the arts as a means of transforming communities, and how Milwaukee artists of color can have their voices heard!
