The Business and Economics Academy of Milwaukee (BEAM) was selected as a 2011 Lead2Change grant recipient for its “Project Move”. Project Move reaches out to young people throughout Milwaukee and offers a variety of health and wellness activities. With obesity rates in American youth on the rise, BEAM is trying to address the growing concern by getting our city’s youth to essentially, ‘move’.
The project brings together young people as a team, and then they get introduced to a different culture, dance forms, creative movements and healthy eating sessions. BEAM students in collaboration with students from Hmong American Peace Academy (HAPA), will perform cultural dance routines under the direction of Mr. DiAngelo Boston, former Ko-Thai dancer and choreographer. The performance will be held this Saturday, April 28 th during the 13th Annual Milwaukee Money Conference at BEAM.
I got a little preview of Project Movie when I went to the BEAM facilities on Milwaukee’s north side. I spoke with LaDonna Leazer, Business and Economics Curriculum Coordinator, along with some of the girls involved with Project Move.
