City Year Milwaukee/Safe Streets, Healthy Kids

City Year is a national non-profit organization that seeks to help tutor children in school, with a primary focus on attendance, behavior and course performance in math and English.

Founded in 1988, City Year has branched out across the U.S. with 22 current serving sites, including one right here in Milwaukee.

City Year corps members work at assigned schools in the Milwaukee district where they spend the whole day assisting the children with schoolwork while also serving as a role model. Corps members start the day before the first student arrives to after the last student leaves.

Along with mentoring students, City Year members also participate in community service around the greater Milwaukee area.

Their slogan is ‘Give a Year’. Change the world hopes to encourage citizens engage in helping develop young leaders of the next generation.
