Chill on the Hill/Community Stories 2012

It's another sign of summer - Chill on the Hill in Bay View's Humboldt Park.

Organized by the Bay View Neighborhood Association and sponsored by Milwaukee County Parks, the 13-week concert series kicked off last week.  Headlining the event was Milwaukee's own De La Buena.  The concert series continues to grow each year, with more than 3,100 attendees the first week.

Chill on the Hill is different than other outdoor music festivals in Milwaukee.  Patrons can bring their own picnic into the park, including adult beverages.  Just like the community which hosts it, the family-friendly event draws people from all walks of life.  The park grounds are lined with couples, large groups of friends, families, and plenty of happily dancing kids.

In addition to the live music, patrons can enjoy the growing number of food tents from local restaurants.  It's a chance to absorb some local color and get to know the small businesses in the neighborhood.

Events like Chill on the Hill are becoming more and more popular on the city's near south side.  Bay View has seen a lot of change in the last few years.  In just the last decade, Bay View has transformed from a sleepy suburb to a vibrant community.  Property values continue to climb, crime rates are decreasing, and new businesses are constantly moving in.

If you'd like to check out Chill on the Hill, get to Humboldt Park Tuesday night from 6-8:30 p.m.
